Celebrating the Harvest!
The first day of Autumn always has a bittersweet taste to it. I love the fall season, with apple cider, pumpkins, and the beautiful leaves…but I hate to say goodbye to my garden and the sunny summer days. We all know what follows autumn, if you live up north! And I’m not so in love with winter these days.
But I will enjoy these cool sunny days while they last! Especially if I can make some pumpkin pies and muffins from all the gorgeous fruit I harvested from my garden this past week. 🙂
Our dog Shadow looks so festive with the orange pumpkins and squash…and he’s such a great help (ahem) when he isn’t trying to run off and visit the garbage cans across the road. He behaved himself this day and oversaw the harvest quietly from the shade of our crab apple tree.
What is it about those orange globes strewn about a field that makes me so dang happy? I don’t know, but I’m always glad to see the pumpkins growing well in my garden. 🙂 I’ve shared a few with friends and I’ll have some more to go with me when I visit. Heck, who needs that much pumpkin pie?!
What is your favorite kind of pumpkin? Do you make pies from your homegrown pumpkins, or do you prefer to open a can? Not judging here…I’ve done both!
