Mental Meanderings
I try to read up on other peoples blogs on a regular basis…there are so many great things being shared! It’s fun to see what bloggers are posting, what projects they’re tackling, and the pictures are great too.
This morning I read a post on http://offthegridat-30.blogspot.com/ about cultivating a like minded community on a new social media site called Earthineer at http://www.earthineer.com/mainPage.php. It looked pretty neat, so I signed up…what’s one more website to check on every day, right? For those of you interested in self reliance, homesteading, raising animals, gardening, or prepping…you might want to check it out too.
Another neat site I’m going to is Pinterest at http://pinterest.com/ and this is a lot of fun to check out. It is really heavy on photos, but you can find oodles of neat posts on everything from recipes, fashion (not my thing), decorating, gardening, crafts…the list goes on. You can pin things that you find online that are interesting onto your boards to save for reading later, or keeping ideas that you want to use in the future. Be careful…it’s pretty addictive.
Our temperatures here are back into the 30′s this week and the snow is melting. The chickens are venturing out into the pasture to scratch around and hunt for scraps and bugs. I’m getting ready to take Shadow for a nice, long walk. We have both been feeling a little cooped up lately.
The temperature in the incubator has been climbing today. This is a good thing…it means that the embryos are developing and starting to produce their own warmth. I was concerned that they might not survive after the power was off to the incubator for a couple of hours last week. The temp dropped to 83 F…it is supposed to be 99 to 100 F. I read recently that temperature drops during incubation cause a higher number of roosters to hatch out. Great, just what I need, more roosters! I’m trying to raise some replacement laying hens, so roosters are not what I had in mind (even though I know there will be around 50% in every hatch). Oh well…we’ll just eat them when they are big enough.
I recently monetized my blog, so you will see ads now. Please only click on the ads if you are really interested in the products.
Hope you are having a great day! I’m off to walk the dog
