The Schick Nature Center at the Blackacre State Nature Preserve in Jefferson County, Kentucky, is an environmental learning facility for children. The nature center has incorporated a solar electric system, passive solar heating system, and daylighting. The electricity generated by the PV system powers the lights and exhaust fans in the nature center. Two 55 watt panels are mounted in front of the center and four, 6 volt golf cart batteries are wired together to create one large 12 volt battery bank. Stored energy from these batteries run the appliances at night or during cloudy periods.
