I like this thing they call a 'home!'

I like this thing they call a ‘home!’

If you are considering fostering an animal, read my post ‘Fostering a Dog on The Homestead.’

Merry Christmas from Our Foster Puppy!

We have a new foster puppy at our house and he is so stinking cute! I’d like you to meet ‘Earth.’ He is available for adoption from Fresh Start Animal Rescue in Belvidere, Illinois.

Earth would like to wish you all…

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

This doggie bed is so warm and cozy!

Earth (named by the tireless volunteers at the Rescue) would also like to let people know that, sometimes, wishes do come true! He and his siblings came to the shelter so sick, they would not have survived if it weren’t for the dedicated efforts of animal lovers like Jen. She nursed them back to health and each of the puppies from his litter has been adopted or is in foster care. So when you think that life is tough because you didn’t get that latest gadget for Christmas, remember that there are often creatures in the world who have it worse than we do.

I love my foster brother Shadow!

If you are thinking about getting a cat or dog, PLEASE don’t buy from puppy mills! Consider adopting a pet from a rescue or shelter.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday and I’ll get off my soap box now! πŸ™‚

Hi Lisa, How wonderful you are a foster Mom – but not sure I could do it as I would not be able to give any of them up for adoption as i get too attached – I would have a house full! It is a good thing to adopt a puppy or adult dog needing a home. Often adult dogs are already house broken and all are soooooo grateful for the love and attention given w/a home of their own – they pay you back a hundred fold. It is a temptation to buy a certain breed you like from a breeder – but so much more rewarding to know you are giving an animal care, protection and a good home who did not have that. We have 3 cats from the SPCA and 3 months ago after being without a dog for 5 years adopted a 2yr. old long haired Chihuahua from the SPCA who was abandoned by her former owners. She was tied to an outside doghouse and never came in the house and now she has the run of the place, is housebroken, romps with our cats and constantly gives us love and kisses. She is full of life but so obedient and loving. She is glad to be here and we are too! All the best to you in your new endeavor.

Merry Christmas, Linda! We are enjoying the fun and excitement of having a puppy in the house. πŸ™‚ It will be hard to give up little Earth when he finds a forever home. But I’m hoping that the training he is getting here will help him adapt to a new home and family. Many people don’t know how to train a puppy…so I hope that the time he spends here will pay off.

Your little Chihuahua sounds adorable! I can’t imagine how anyone could do that to a dog. πŸ™ How lucky she is to have you! And what a blessing to have such an adorable companion in your home!

    Amen.

We have two Yellow Labrador Retrievers whom we LOVE. One was a Christmas gift 4 years ago, so we raised him from just a little. pup. The other we adopted through a Labrador Retriever Foster-Rescue program 2 years ago. Yeller was 3 when we adopted him. And, YES, adopting a dog–especially an adult dog, is a huge blessing to people and dogs. We’ve been amazed to watch Yeller blossom into the strong, confident dog he was intended to be. His previous owners gave up on him. Literally thousands of Labrador Retrievers end up in foster care each year. Thanks for adopting!

Merry Christmas, Sally! How wonderful that you gave a good home to your loving dogs! It’s great that you went through the Foster-Rescue program! I have friends who did the same with a Border Collie…they have a super smart girl named Bobbi who has come to visit us while we ‘Bobbi-sat’ her. πŸ™‚ Thanks for sharing your puppy love story!
