I hope that you will sit and enjoy Thanksgiving Dinner with your family this year, instead of rushing out to buy the latest plastic shrouded gadget on the big box shelves. I know that I will boycott shopping on Thanksgiving because I don’t want to support stores that make their employees work on such a family centered holiday.
I also intend to purchase as many gifts as I can from small businesses located right here in the USA. I want my shopping dollars to support our small American entrepreneurs! These are just a few suggestions for shops I think you would like. Please take the time to find a gift that supports people like you and me, instead of big corporations that make cheap junk. A gift that lasts for years to come will be so much more appreciated than something that falls apart the second time you use it!

I make many of my gifts and buy as much as I can from local artisans and small businesses. Occasionally, a grandchild asks for something that isn’t in those categories and I can’t stick to it, but they usually are more than pleased with their personalized, hand made gifts.
That’s wonderful, Maureen! Homemade is always great 🙂 I did buy some things that my family wanted that isn’t local too, because no one around here makes what they wanted. But I really do try to shop local and earth friendly, or make it myself too!
Sometimes you’ve got to put your money where your mouth is. THANK YOU for this post reminding us all to support small business. Like you, I’ll be focusing strongly on just that again this year. Let’s keep our buying dollars in our own back yard!

Buying locally and environmentally is extremely important if possible. It builds up you local economy and the back bone of American at one time was Mom & Pop shops. Now we have big corporations that are taking over and we need to do everything we can to help sustain our local business. I try to buy as many things as I can locally and I definitely love things that are environmentally friendly. The whole world benefits from that. Thanks for sharing your ideas.

I have never participated in black Friday however, my reasons were different before. Now like you I don’t want to give my money to big businesses that don’t care about their employees. For about four years now we have been supporting small local businesses. Thanks for the suggestions, their is one I already on your list I plan on buying from.

I agree! I get a lot of satisfaction from purchasing gifts and anything I can locally or at least American Made. Buying from the big boxes is feeding a monster that cannot be satisfied.
