Here are a few words from the fabulous sponsor of our seed giveaway!

Hello and welcome to the wonderful world of Heirloom Seeds. My name is Mary and together with my husband, we are Mary’s Heirloom Seeds!

What is an Heirloom Seed?

The definition of heirloom is “something, perhaps an antique or some kind of jewelry, that has been passed down for generations through family members.” An heirloom seed therefore is a seed which has been saved and passed down from generation to generation. These seeds have been carefully cultivated and are considered a great value to the recipient. Some heirloom seeds have been passed down for over 100 years and others for over 400 years.

Heirloom seeds produce heirloom vegetables or produce. An heirloom seeds is not necessarily an organic seed (but can be). A GMO seed is neither heirloom or organic. If you have additional questions about heirloom versus GMO seeds I am always happy to help!

I don’t sell anything that I wouldn’t grow in my own garden. All of the seeds listed are organic, open-pollinated, non-GMO, heirloom seeds. I have been growing my own vegetables and, besides the money they save me, the flavor is WAY better than the vegetables available at the supermarket. It also makes me feel less dependent on the supply and I know what goes on my veggies.

I put together a few packages of seeds that seem to belong together and the individual seeds are available also. Food prices are not going down and growing your own food, especially heirloom veggies, is a great way to save money and get more nutrition for your dollar.

Heirloom Seeds, gardening, and trying to live as eco-friendly as possible are a few of my passions. Everything about Mary’s Heirloom Seeds is eco-friendly. We chose to offer everything online to cut down on waste. From our web-hosting company, which is 100% wind powered, to our seed packaging, which is at least 40% post-consumer recycled paper, we strive to create as little waste as possible.
