Cleaning the Coop & The HomeAcre Hop #99

Ok, I didn’t grab the camera to show you today’s cleaning. This photo shows how the manure pile starts to build up outside the door when the snow gets deep! I’m hoping to avoid that this year. :)

Welcome to The HomeAcre Hop

The temperatures in my neck of the woods have been pretty nice for December, a welcome change to our below average November. I’ve been taking advantage of the warmer weather (in the 30s) to clean out the coop and get some chores taken care of before the snow flies and the temps drop. Today I hauled all of the chicken manure down to my ‘back forty’ pile, mucked out the whole coop, and washed all of their water and feed dishes. The ducks mess things up pretty quickly, so I can’t rely on the deep litter method that so many homesteaders like to employ…it creates too much moisture in my coop. I occasionally tell myself that the ducks should go in my roaster, but I like their eggs too much. :)

Are you getting some last minute chores done around your homestead? Or has the snow already buried you up to your eyebrows?
