In The Garden With Lisa

I’m so happy that gardening season is here and everything is going gangbusters around the homestead! I just can’t get enough of it and wanted to share what’s ‘growin’ on’ around here.

A young pear tree in the late afternoon light.

We’ve had blossoms on some of our fruit trees, but not on the pear and apple trees yet. Maybe next year.

The Cornish X chicks are getting kinda tubby. I’ll be glad when they are in the freezer and that job is behind me.

I’m hoping to harvest some grape leaves soon to pickle or use as wraps for meat and veggies. I love foraging for free food around the homestead!

We have lots of flowers blooming around the yard. It makes my heart glad to see them.

The baby lettuce and spinach will be ready to thin in a few days. We’ll make salad from the thinnings and toss in some dandelions and lambs quarters for good measure. We have a bumper crop of dandelions this year! Aren’t you jealous? The whole plant is edible and I especially like the flowers. Here’ a close up of my wild greens salad I had for lunch. :)

Weed salad. Yum :)

The strawberry patch should produce enough strawberries to preserve and eat lots of fresh shortcake this year. I really missed my berry patch when we moved, but we’re back in full swing! I can almost feel a backache coming on from picking.

Strawberry flowers...can't wait for fresh berries!

I planted some spring bulbs last year and I’m so glad I did. These tulips are holding up pretty well to the windy days we’ve been having.
