On The Homestead #4
Homestead Tips and News
Welcome to On The Homestead, where I share my favorite homesteading highlights! There are so many wonderful tips, tutorials, and new ideas shared, I wanted to round them up and put them in the spotlight.
I like this inexpensive chicken coop constructed partially from straw bales. I think I’d have to tighten it up a bit to house chickens over our winters, but I like the idea!
And I love this video on Duckponics! I ordered ducklings this spring and now I want to set up a duckponic system instead of having to dump the water out every day after the ducks mess it up.
If you thought the vertical pallet gardens on Pinterest are cool, you’ve got to check this out…(Click on the image)…
Vertical gardening on this scale would cool a building off considerably in the summer. Imagine the energy savings.
For those of you interested in agricultural news, here is a link to a list of free magazines on a site called ‘Country Farm Lifestyles.’ Topics are geared toward professionals in poultry, pig, garden centers, and more. Free is nice, but be aware that much of the information is geared toward the large producer who is interested in conventional agriculture. I assume that they use pesticides, hormones, antibiotics, etc.
Have any of checked out The Pioneer Project? It’s set up for college age students and looks like a great experience. So if you know any young people looking to reconnect with their roots…check it out. They have a blog too!
