Freezing Garlic

Do you buy a head of garlic and use 2 or 3 cloves, then forget it in the fridge? Or maybe you grow garlic and it doesn’t keep long enough to last until spring. Don’t waste it…freeze it! It’s so simple to do and when you want garlic it’s ready to use. Just pull a couple cloves out of the freezer and chop.

Start with clean, fresh garlic. Pull apart the head and peel the papery skin off of each clove. Cut off any brown spots and the hard root end. There is no need to blanch garlic. Put it in a freezer bag and label so you know how old it is. I have kept garlic in the freezer for a couple of years and it still was good in cooking. It’s probably better to use up in 1 year.

Garlic can also be dehydrated for cooking. Just be aware that everything in your house will smell like garlic for a few days! Pin It
