Hi Lisa Lynn!

I’m especially interested in dehydrating without electricity-did you string your fruit on thread with a needle?? Very interesting!

  I did, although that was more for demonstration because it is a bit too humid in our area most of the time. During the heat of summer it might work. This works well over a wood stove in the fall or winter.

Dehydrating fruit on a string would not work here. It’s too wet. But there are regions in the Swiss mountains where the air is dry and beef is dehydrated. It’s called “Bündner Fleisch” and very good!

  Hi Regula,
  I can only do this in the hottest part of the summer around here. But herbs dry well this way, tied in bunches. The dried beef sounds good!

    Winter is the dry season here. Cold and dry air from Russia. I can dry herbs and beans hanging over the oven in winter.

You know I used to admire the Dervaes family until they tried to trade mark Urban Homesteading, shut down people’s facebook pages that had Urban Homesteading in the title and were generally nasty to many people and are still in litigation about this issue. It’s been about two years now and they just won’t let it go. Which is a shame because their home is such a great model for what you can do with a small space.
