Vintage Honey Jar

I’m so happy to have a number of things from my Grandmother’s house. I’ll share photos of them as I have time. Today you are getting a real treat…a honey jar! It was fun to help Grandma make biscuits and then eat them warm with honey :) I remember Grandma keeping this jar on her counter or table, with sweet honey inside. And I’ll never forget the time we went to use the honey, only to find a gazillion little red ants trapped in the sticky goo!

Now I have this sweet little beehive filled with honey on my counter or table, ready to spread on home made biscuits or toast :) I think Joe enjoys having a jar of honey right in reach at the table. Hopefully he can use this honey jar in his own home someday.

The tea towel in the photo is from Grandma’s kitchen too. It is from Ireland and has recipes for honey printed on it. I am thinking about trying some of them soon, so I can share them with you!

Grandpa was a beekeeper and his shed was still intact when I was young. He passed away when I was 3, and I don’t really remember him, but I have vivid memories of the smoker and little boxes that bees were shipped in on the workbench in that old shed. The shed is gone now and all of the tools, but I remember it all so clearly. The honey that Grandpa sealed up in jars graced the cupboard in Grandma’s house for a good 15 years after Grandpa passed on. What a treat to eat the honey he harvested long after he said goodbye.
