Scenes From The Pioneer Fest

The Boone County Autumn Pioneer Festival gives visitors a glimpse of early settler life in Northern Illinois each September. I thoroughly enjoy spending an afternoon walking through the displays, dreaming about what life was like back in ‘the day.’ There’s always so much to see and I rarely make it all the way through the festival before I need to tend to my own homestead.

Last week I shared photos of some of the myriad of Cast Iron Cookware that I drooled over. This week I’m sharing more photos of pioneer life, from blacksmiths to pioneer kitchens. I hope you enjoy these scenes from the Autumn Pioneer Festival!

    1. Hi Laura,
I always enjoy this festival…this year it was cold and rainy, and I had so much to do. So I didn’t make it. Let me know if you go next year, I’ll meet you there!

  1. I would love to know how to make the rag rug. I crochet some like my grandma taught me, but that one is unusual! Sure enjoy your sight.

    1. Hi,
Making rag rugs is something I’d like to try too…I just need to buckle down and teach myself! I found instructions here…

The one thing I would add to these instructions is…separate your fabric into piles of cotton or knit, etc. If you use cotton and knit fabric in the same rug, I’ve read that the finished rug doesn’t work out as well. If I ever make one, I’ll share the adventure. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

  2. I LOVE IT Vani! There are SOME PLACES here in Jersey and Eastern PA where Similar things happen! ANYBODY, Especially with KIDS who “Doesn’t Go” is, well; AN IDIOT! Bobby Deems
