Line Dried with Love

I hang most of our laundry out on the clothesline during the summer, and I have to say that although I love saving money and energy by line drying, I’m getting pretty frustrated with el cheap-o clothespins (NOT a name brand…just the regular, made wherever, as cheaply as possible clothespins) that break or fall apart during normal use. So I was pretty jazzed when Kevin’s Quality Clothespins asked me to review their product!

The difference is noticeable immediately.
The difference is noticeable immediately.

When the set of ten clothespins arrived in the mail, I tore the package open and noticed immediately that they are of a MUCH better quality than any clothespins I’ve ever used before. Please note that this includes the clothespins that my Gram used on her clothesline when I was a kid.

Kevin’s Quality Clothespins (on the left) has a much better spring mechanism than el cheap-o pins.

No Comparison!

I held the new clothespins up to el cheap-o’s and my initial impression was completely confirmed. Kevin’s Quality Clothespins are larger, heavier, harder, and the spring is obviously much stronger and better made. You can feel the difference when you pinch the pins open to use them.

You can see the difference in the quality of metal spring on Kevin’s Quality Clothespins (left) vs el cheap-o’s.

Peeved with Old Pins

My biggest issue with el cheap-o pins is how quickly they fall apart. The metal spring is made cheaply and they don’t fit all of the way across the pin, causing the two halves of the pin to come apart after a few months of use. That’s when I get ticked off and pitch the broken pins into the bushes…my clothespin graveyard. With Kevin’s Quality Clothespins, you can clearly see that the metal piece is longer and stronger, and the spring is well made. I have no doubt that these clothespins will last a lifetime, as their website states.

Kevin’s Quality clothespins on the right have metal spring mechanisms that will hold together much better than the cheap ones.

If you visit Kevin’s Quality Clothespins and sniff at the price, I highly recommend that you consider the true cost of replacing your clothespins every year or so…it sure adds up! Besides, these quality clothespins are crafted in the United States, by Americans who are willing to replace their product if they fail due to normal wear and tear…try getting el cheap-o to stand behind their work! The saying ‘You get what you pay for’ is definitely true of this product. I know that the next time I buy clothespins I’ll be willing to pay extra for a product that I know will last, and last, and last!

  1. Sounds like a great product, and worth the price. I know the cheap clothespins absolutely will not hold clothes on the line when the wind picks up here on the mountain!
    Thanks!

  2. Hi Lisa,
I’d like to interview you for a story on storm preparedness that I’m writing for Better Homes and Gardens. Can you email me at julia at bargainbabe dot com? I’d like to chat with you for a few minutes ASAP.
    Thanks!
    Julia
PS. I write a blog, too, at bargainbabe.com. Love your new book!

  3. Thanks for this – I needed it! I bought some Italian, stainless steal ones and they’re great but I’d love an American product that actually worked. I chuck my dead ones into my fire pit and usually mutter some unladylike thing while I do it. Pinning this for later reference!

  4. I shared your post on facebook… I have done okay with the el cheapos but will certainly look into this once I get relocated to the acreage…. 🙂

    1. Hi Kate,
Thanks for sharing the link to my post! I’m so glad that you ordered some of their clothespins…they are really wonderful and I know you will enjoy them 🙂 Best wishes!

  5. I agree with how you feel in regards to the “el cheapo clothespins”! I have had so many shoot off while trying to hang clothes up….ending up lord knows where in the yard! I have been looking for some better made ones, so may be checking these out!
