Late Summer on My Homestead & The HomeAcre Hop #86
Welcome to The HomeAcre Hop
We Have News!
The HomeAcre Hop sends Our Best Wishes to our co-host Mary from Homegrown on The Hill and her Little Bundle of Joy on The Way! Mary will be taking a break from co-hosting for a few weeks to deliver her baby girl and spend some time with family. We’ll keep you updated!
We are also very excited to Welcome Tracy from Our Simple Life as our newest co-host for The HomeAcre Hop! We’re so happy to have you join us, Tracy! I hope all of our readers will take a moment to stop by and say Hi to Tracy and welcome her to the fold.
Summer is Slowing Down
Our weather is cooling off a bit, making my homesteading projects more pleasant. since last week, I made 3 batches of organic peach jam, dug up a bed of potatoes, put together another Redneck Cold Frame, and planted lettuce, spinach, beets, kale, and Swiss chard for the fall. So my featured post is very timely! I also have seedlings in my little greenhouse…I’m hoping for some greens that will keep on going after the cold weather sets in.
A friend sold me some laying hens recently and they’ve increased our production (along with a light on in the coop) to an average of 18 eggs a day. My friends at Trogg’s Hollow Farm sell the extras as add-ons to their weekly shares. I also have two incubators humming along with eggs due to hatch tomorrow! Hopefully I will have a good hatch with lots of pullets to start laying next spring. It’s definitely time to renew the laying flock. But I’m keeping my fingers crossed because one of the incubators is starting to really stink up the place…one bad egg can create quite a stench! Hopefully I’ll have good news next week
I can’t wait to hear what’s happening on your homestead!
