How to Make Applesauce Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting

I recently came across a ‘windfall’ of unwanted apples and make a big batch of applesauce. I canned most of it, froze some when I got tired of canning, dehydrated apple slices, and put the rest in the refrigerator to use fresh.  For more information on using Wild Apples…check out my post. This delicious applesauce cake recipe is a great way to use some of your applesauce!

Here is my yummy recipe for Applesauce Spice Cake with a delicious twist… Maple Cream Cheese Frosting! This cake disappears quickly at our house and I’m sure you won’t have leftovers for long. I’ve updated this post to make the recipe easy to download and print out for your recipe box. Enjoy!

  1. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe. This was my first time making a spice cake from scratch.
I modified a little by using gluten free flour and an extra egg, since I didn’t have duck eggs and since gluten free tends to be a little less moist. The results were delicious! The maple cream cheese icing is amazing. I will have to pin it. Oh my goodness!!!

    1. Hi Cindy!
I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe! It does work quite well with gluten free flour…but I haven’t made it that way in ages. 🙂 If you ever find a source for duck eggs, they help create a very moist, fluffy gluten free cake (or other baked goodies too)!

Thanks for letting me know how well your cake turned out! Ours disappeared very quickly. 😉

      Enjoy!

  2. Lisa, this sounds delicious and what a great way to use applesauce. We have a tree with wonderful sweet/tart apples (don’t know the species) and it is overflowing with apples this year. I’ve made a few pies but definitely plan to try this cake recipe – sounds like a winner! Thanks for sharing.

    1. Hi Linda,
Glad to share the recipe! Your apple tree sounds wonderful…we don’t have any mature trees since our move and I miss them. I hope you enjoy your cake! Wish I could drop by for a piece of pie 🙂
