A Basket Full of Autumn!

It Feels Like Autumn

I’ve been watching the pumpkins, squash, and gourds mature in the garden, waiting patiently for the vines to die back. Well, this morning I got a little impatient! Here is a basket of pie pumpkins, Red Kuri squash, and gourds I picked for my friend Maria…shhh, don’t tell her I’m bringing a gift this morning!

Maria hosts music practice for my son, her son, and their friend Brent. They act like a bunch of goofballs when they get together, but they sure crank out some killer blues! Hopefully, someday we’ll be able to get them on stage to entertain an audience. ๐Ÿ™‚

That deep orange squash on the left is a Red Kuri…a miniature red Hubbard type squash. I can’t wait to try one!

So, as a way to say ‘Thanks’ for putting up with these kids…I’m bringing an early basket of autumn decor, straight from my garden!

Nice haul on pumpkins and Red Kuri squash from my garden this year!

It’s hard to believe it’s almost fall! Are you ready for Autumn?

    1. Hi Karen,
You could create a raised bed garden with compost and top soil. That would be much easier than trying to work with heavy clay. Otherwise, I would suggest that you keep adding compost every year and eventually the humus will improve you garden area. Best wishes!

  1. Hello! Love the colors! We are also enjoying the coming of fall here Indiana.
a bit of surprise for me on our 12 acre farm, where we raise dairy goats, chickens and Angora rabbits- and compost all their “poo” and bedding: We discovered , ontop of the compost piles, bountiful fare…pumpkins, squash and cantaloupes! What a bonus, as a result of my kitchen veggie scraps laid into the piles. Rich compost does wonders for these fall beauties!

  2. Thank you Lisa – You are the best!!! I love my gift.. Now I just need to go get some mums, kale and pansies and I’ll be all set for fall ๐Ÿ™‚ And I can’t wait to try that Red Kuri squash – yum…
